Anthropic Valuation: How $965 Billion Gets Repriced
October 30, 2026 | Anthropic Stock News
The last private Anthropic valuation was $965 billion, set by its $65 billion Series H round on May 28, 2026. The S-1 doesn't state a valuation for the IPO. Reported discussions have run from $2 trillion or more (Financial Times, August) to around $1.5 trillion (Reuters, October 15). The order book sets the public price at pricing, and trading sets it after that.
What was Anthropic's last private valuation?
$965 billion post-money. Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital led the $65 billion Series H. Capital Group, Coatue, D1, GIC, ICONIQ, and XN were co-leads, according to Anthropic. In the same announcement, Anthropic said its run-rate revenue had crossed $47 billion earlier that month. Our Anthropic IPO guide covers the earlier rounds and the backers.
What Anthropic valuation is being discussed for the IPO?
Two reported figures frame it. The Financial Times reported in mid-August that Anthropic's backers expected a valuation of $2 trillion or higher. Reuters reported on October 15 that investors were discussing around $1.5 trillion instead, "a significant step down," because revenue growth had slowed. On the day of the filing, AP and other outlets put the range at $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion. None of these figures comes from Anthropic, and the S-1 leaves the price range blank.
Figure | Source | Date (2026) |
$965 billion post-money | Anthropic, Series H announcement | May 28 |
$2 trillion or more | Financial Times, citing Anthropic's backers | Mid-August |
Around $1.5 trillion | Reuters, citing sources | October 15 |
$1.5 trillion to $2 trillion | AP and other reports | October 26 |
How do public markets value a company like Anthropic?
Usually as a multiple of revenue, because profits aren't steady yet. The table below shows the price-to-sales multiples implied by the figures in circulation. These are our own illustrative calculations from published numbers, not valuations.
Valuation | Revenue measure | Implied multiple |
$965 billion (Series H, May 2026) | $47 billion run-rate (May 2026) | About 20.5 times |
$1.5 trillion (Reuters, October 2026) | $65 billion run-rate (end of July 2026) | About 23 times |
$1.5 trillion (Reuters, October 2026) | $67.2 billion (four times the reported $16.8 billion third quarter) | About 22 times |
The multiples depend on which revenue figure you use. Against the $16.3 billion of revenue reported for the first half of 2026, any of these valuations looks far higher. Our article on Anthropic's revenue explains the difference between reported and run-rate figures.
Why can private and public prices differ?
Because they price different securities in different ways. Private rounds sell preferred stock on negotiated terms to a small group of investors. Amazon's filings, for instance, describe its 2026 purchases as nonvoting preferred stock. A public listing sells common stock to a wide market, and the price then moves every day with orders. The Class A shares also carry a minority of the vote, which some investors may price in. Our article on how the IPO price range gets set covers the mechanics.
What would a $1.5 trillion valuation mean in context?
About 55% more than the May 2026 Series H price, by our arithmetic. It would also put Anthropic among the most valuable public companies in the world at listing. By comparison, Reuters reported that SpaceX's first-day close in June 2026 valued it at $2.1 trillion.
How do the private and public numbers compare?
The two are closer than they first appear. Measured against run-rate revenue, the $965 billion round and the $1.5 trillion IPO talk imply similar multiples, in the low 20s. So most of the rise in the reported valuation comes from revenue growth. The price paid per dollar of sales has barely moved.
The open question is the revenue measure itself. Run-rate figures rose quickly through mid-2026, and the October reports suggest slower growth. The October 26 filing leaves third-quarter revenue blank. Once Anthropic files it, the multiple the market is being asked to pay becomes clearer.
Key takeaways
- Anthropic's last private valuation was $965 billion (May 2026). Reported IPO figures run from about $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion, and none of them comes from Anthropic.
- Against run-rate revenue, the private round and the IPO talk both imply a price-to-sales multiple in the low 20s. The difference is mostly revenue growth.
- The S-1 leaves the price range and share count blank, so nobody can work out a valuation from the filing yet.
