Palantir Q2 Earnings Crush Expectations Driven by AI Growth

Your capital is at risk if you invest. You could lose all your investment. Please see the full risk warning here.

Key Takeaways

  • AI demand continues to transform Palantir into one of the fastest growing software companies.
  • Commercial revenue growth is now matching the strength of government contracts.
  • Higher guidance reinforces confidence that the AI investment cycle remains in its early stages.

Revenue And Earnings Blow Past Estimates

Palantir just reported Q2 2026 results and the numbers landed like a firework display on a Monday night. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $0.41 against a forecast of $0.35. The beat extended the streak to nine straight quarters of topping consensus. Revenue jumped 93% from a year earlier to $1.94 billion, sailing past the $1.81 billion analysts had pencilled in. 1 GAAP operating income reached $912 million at a 47% margin, adjusted operating income hit $1.19 billion at a 62% margin, and the Rule of 40 score, which is a favourite shorthand among software investors for balancing growth against profit, touched an eye watering 155%. Total contract value climbed 49% to $3.37 billion, and management raised full year revenue guidance to a range of $8.15 billion to $8.16 billion.2

Net income landed at $1.07 billion, or $0.41 per share, up from roughly $329 million a year earlier. US commercial revenue surged 149% to $764 million and has now jumped nearly fourfold since 2024 once compounding is taken into account. Remaining commercial deal value in the US more than doubled to $6.24 billion.1

Commercial Business Is Becoming the Growth Engine

The most impressive aspect of the quarter was where the growth came from.

United States commercial revenue surged 149% from a year earlier to $764 million, showing that artificial intelligence is becoming a core investment priority across corporate America. Businesses are using Palantir software to integrate large datasets, deploy AI models securely and automate complex operational decisions.1

Historically, many viewed Palantir primarily as a defence technology company. Today, commercial customers are becoming equally important, creating a far more diversified revenue base and reducing reliance on government spending cycles.

Commercial adoption highlights how artificial intelligence investment is broadening beyond the technology sector, with traditional industries deploying AI to improve productivity, streamline operations and strengthen decision making.

Government Business Remains Exceptionally Strong

While commercial demand grabbed most headlines, government operations continued to produce strong growth.

United States government revenue climbed 90% to $809 million, supported by strong demand from defence agencies and national security organisations. Heightened geopolitical tensions continue to encourage governments to modernise intelligence capabilities, battlefield awareness and operational planning through advanced software platforms.1

Palantir has become embedded within these mission critical environments, creating relationships that are typically long lasting and difficult for competitors to replace.

That combination of recurring government contracts together with rapidly expanding commercial adoption gives the company a diversified growth profile.

Artificial Intelligence Is Moving Beyond the Hype

Many companies continue to discuss artificial intelligence as a future opportunity, but Palantir is monetising it today.

Management continues to position the company around what it describes as AI sovereignty, allowing organisations to maintain full control over their own data while deploying advanced language models securely inside existing operations.

This approach appears to resonate with enterprises that remain cautious about exposing sensitive corporate information to public AI systems. Rather than replacing existing infrastructure, Palantir integrates AI into existing workflows, reducing implementation risks and accelerating adoption. 3

AI spending moves from pilot projects to enterprise wide deployment and companies capable of delivering measurable productivity improvements are likely to capture a large share of technology budgets.

Guidance Suggests Momentum Is Still Building

Perhaps the strongest message from the earnings release was management confidence. The company increased full year revenue guidance by roughly half a billion dollars compared with previous expectations.

That is a significant revision for a company already growing at one of the fastest rates in large cap software.

Management now expects 2026 revenue between $8.15 billion and $8.16 billion, indicating that customer demand remains exceptionally strong entering the second half of the year.1

Large guidance upgrades often carry more weight than quarterly earnings surprises because they suggest management is seeing continued strength across future customer pipelines rather than temporary demand.

Inside The Earnings Call

The details buried inside the earnings call were more striking than the headline figures. Adjusted free cash flow hit $1.22 billion, and Palantir crossed the billion dollar mark simultaneously across GAAP net income, adjusted free cash flow, and adjusted operating income, a rare trifecta for such a young company. The quarter also brought a record 220 deals worth at least one million dollars, including 98 deals above five million and 70 above ten million. US commercial bookings surged 153% to $2.132 billion. And despite years of headline defense wins, trailing revenue from the Department of Defense still sits under 25 basis points of the entire Pentagon budget, which tells its own story about how much room remains on the table.4

Valuation Remains the Biggest Debate

The latest earnings report strengthens the long term investment case, but it does not settle the valuation debate. Even after another exceptional quarter, the stock continues to trade at a substantial premium to most software peers, leaving little room for execution missteps.

That does not necessarily mean the valuation is unjustified. The company continues to generate expanding margins, robust free cash flow and accelerating customer adoption while operating in one of the fastest growing segments of enterprise software.

The investment thesis now rests on whether commercial AI adoption can continue expanding at a pace that justifies such elevated expectations. If current growth proves sustainable, that premium may continue to receive market support. However, any meaningful slowdown in customer acquisition, contract wins or revenue growth could quickly challenge investor confidence. For now, the business continues to execute exceptionally well, with another earnings beat, higher guidance and accelerating commercial momentum.

Looking ahead, investors should focus less on quarterly headline numbers and more on the durability of demand. Commercial customer growth, the pace of AI platform adoption, the value of new contract wins and the ability to maintain strong margins will ultimately determine whether the current premium valuation is warranted. If those metrics continue moving in the right direction, the company remains well positioned to extend its leadership in the rapidly expanding enterprise AI market.

Investment Outlook

Palantir delivered another quarter that strengthens confidence in its long term growth. Commercial adoption is accelerating faster than expected and government demand remains resilient. Artificial intelligence has become a measurable revenue driver, supported by stronger profitability and another meaningful increase in guidance.

Few companies are combining revenue growth approaching 100%, expanding profitability and rising free cash flow simultaneously.

Competition across enterprise AI will likely intensify over coming years. However, the latest results suggest Palantir has established a differentiated position by combining secure data infrastructure, operational software and artificial intelligence into a single platform.

Market sentiment looked quite cautious just days before the earnings release. Consensus estimates pointed to revenue of $1.812 billion and adjusted earnings per share of $0.34, while the stock was trading around $125, roughly 40% below its November 2025 peak. Options markets were pricing in a 12% move in either direction, reflecting elevated uncertainty, and traders were closely watching a tightly coiled technical setup that had the potential to break sharply once the results were announced.

With the stock expected to open above $144 on Tuesday, both key static resistance and the long term downward trendline are likely to be breached. A decisive breakout above these levels would mark a significant improvement in the technical picture, potentially bringing an end to the eight month downtrend and opening the door to a move towards $200 over the long-term.
