Will Anthropic Join the Nasdaq-100? The Fast Entry Rule
October 30, 2026 | Anthropic Stock News
An Anthropic Nasdaq 100 entry could come soon after listing, if ANT meets the criteria. Since May 1, 2026, Nasdaq's fast entry rule lets a newly listed company join the Nasdaq-100 after about 15 trading days. Before that, every new listing waited three months. The test is whether the company's full market value ranks within the top 40 index members on its seventh trading day. SpaceX went through it in 2026 and joined the index on July 7. Nothing is decided until ANT trades.
What is the Nasdaq-100 fast entry rule?
A change to the index methodology that took effect on May 1, 2026. A newly listed security is tested at the close of its seventh trading day. If its full market capitalization ranks within the top 40 current index members, it's typically added after 15 trading days. It still has to meet every other eligibility rule except the waiting period. Nasdaq announces the addition after the tenth trading day. A fast entry doesn't require another company to drop out, so the index can briefly hold more than 100 members.
Companies outside the top 40 still face the standard waiting period of three full calendar months, not counting the month they list.
Does Anthropic's share structure affect eligibility?
Not directly. The methodology says multiple share classes of the same company "are each eligible." Only the listed Class A shares would be tested. The index has no minimum free float. Instead, a company with a small share of its stock in public hands has its index weight capped. The cap uses three times the free float as the share count. Full market capitalization for the ranking includes the unlisted share classes.
What would an Anthropic Nasdaq 100 entry need?
A primary listing on a US Nasdaq exchange other than the Nasdaq Capital Market. ANT's application to the Nasdaq Global Select Market meets that – our article on Anthropic's stock symbol covers the listing tier. Fast entry candidates also need average daily value traded of at least $5 million from listing, according to Nasdaq's 2026 FAQ. For a listing of Anthropic's reported size, that bar is low.
How did the fast entry rule work for SpaceX?
SpaceX began trading as SPCX on June 12, 2026. Nasdaq announced on June 26 that it would join the Nasdaq-100. It entered the index before the market opened on July 7. J.P. Morgan estimated the addition would bring about $4.3 billion of passive buying, according to Reuters. Our article on SpaceX's first weeks of trading shows what the stock did around that date. Our bull case for Anthropic covers why index buying features in it.
What about the S&P 500?
Different rules, and a longer wait. S&P Dow Jones Indices requires positive GAAP net income from continuing operations in the most recent quarter. The sum of the last four quarters has to be positive too. A new listing generally has to trade for 12 months before it can be considered. Companies with multiple share classes have been eligible again since April 2023. And S&P confirmed in June 2026 that it has no fast entry route.
That earnings test is where Anthropic's accounting shows up. It reported GAAP net losses in both 2025 and the first half of 2026. Most of that came from fair value charges on its convertible notes. So the fair value charges behind the net losses block the S&P 500 route. They don't affect the Nasdaq-100 test.
Key takeaways
- Nasdaq's fast entry rule tests a new listing on its seventh trading day. Rank in the top 40 by market value and it can join after about 15 trading days.
- SpaceX used the rule in 2026, joining the index on July 7, less than four weeks after its first trade.
- The S&P 500 is a separate question. It has a 12-month wait and a GAAP net income test that Anthropic's reported losses don't yet meet.
