Tesla’s Rough Ride
Since Donald Trump won the US presidential election on November 5th, it seemed Tesla’s price was tied to the SpaceX rocket and possibly landing on the moon.
The stock nearly doubled in 1.5 months compared to where it was on Election Day.
However, since mid-December, Tesla’s share price has been on a downward trend, wiping out nearly $800 billion from its record valuation.
Tesla shares have erased their post-election gains by falling over 40% in 2025, as disappointing sales data and concerns over Musk’s role in the Trump administration (on top of his duties at SpaceX and Twitter/X) weighed negatively on the stock.
On top of that, there was Trump’s institution of 25% tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico as well as 20% tariffs on goods from China.
Bad news for the carmaker, which manufactures parts for its cars in Canada and Mexico and earned over 21% of its revenues from China last year.
Hence, any retaliation from any of the countries above, especially China, would heavily impact Tesla.

Tesla’s Possible Bounce Back?
Despite the downturn, Trump and Musk have remained publicly supportive of each other. Trump even said he would buy a Tesla to boost sales, a move that could influence millions of Republican supporters.
According to Morning Consult, 26% of Republicans would consider buying a Tesla—about 33.7 million potential buyers. If just 5% of them act on Trump’s endorsement, that would equal 1.7 million new Tesla purchases.
Historically, Tesla has recovered well from sharp declines. In the last five years, the stock has fallen over 5% in a day 103 times, but rallied 62% of the time afterward. Meanwhile, Tesla’s price-to-sales ratio has dropped from 15x to 11x, making it more attractive to investors.
Finally, Musk has pledged to double U.S. vehicle production by 2027, a long-term commitment that could help the EV maker regain momentum.
Investors can long Tesla using our 2x Tesla, 3x Tesla.
