  • Becomes 5th company to ever reach that milestone
  • AI boosts Amazon’s growth

Amazon has joined the elite group of U.S. companies valued at over $2 trillion, alongside Alphabet, Apple, Microsoft, and Nvidia. This milestone was reached as Amazon’s shares surged more than 25% this year and over 50% in the past 12 months[1], driven by an AI-fueled rally that has propelled the tech giant into record territory.

Since surpassing the $1 trillion mark in February 2020, Amazon took over four years to add another trillion to its market capitalization. The company’s impressive stock performance also boosted Jeff Bezos’s net worth by nearly $7 billion in a single day.

Several factors have contributed to Amazon’s stock rise, including strategic cost-cutting measures and business restructuring to leverage the growing AI trend.

The renewed growth momentum in Amazon Web Services has been a significant cause for optimism for investors. Amazon’s $4 billion investment in Anthropic, a San Francisco-based AI company, underscores its commitment to developing foundational models for generative AI systems.

Amazon’s recent cost-cutting initiatives, which have driven earnings growth in recent quarters, have further bolstered investor confidence.

Moreover, reports suggest Amazon is working on an AI chatbot, internally named “Metis,” to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

The broader stock market has benefited from AI enthusiasm, a resilient U.S. economy, and the potential for lower interest rates.

Next, investors will keenly monitor the upcoming inflation data, focusing on the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, PCE, which is due on Friday.

Recent trends indicate a steady decline in inflation, which might provide an additional boost to stock prices.
